Cinema at the end is a road-movie documentary narrated in first person, which talks about the journey of a 29 years-old girl, Meritxell. She was born in La Garriga, a small town 34km away from Barcelona (Catalunya). Meritxell introduces us to her own life as well as to the history of her town’s cinema: Alhambra, which is the last remaining local cinema still open around the district. Structured in flashback, Meritxell’s story involves the audience in her quest to these last local cinemas like the one in her town, departing from Alhambra and getting to other cinemas.

Four years ago, Meritxell travelled to Buenos Aires (Argentina) to work for a film school for a few months. Four days after she arrived, she suddenly went deaf from one ear and started to feel dizzy. Because of this, doctors recommended her not to take a plane so that she decided to stay in Argentina.
After she discovers that her favourite cinema in Buenos Aires has just closed, Meritxell decides to go on a trip, searching for the last local cinemas. She wants to discover where the cinematographic images go when these cinemas disappear and which part of them remains in the people.
In the south, close to the Antarctica, in this remote place of the planet at the end of the world, the opening of the first movie theatre questions whether cinema, seen as a social meeting event, is either dying, transforming or is created a new.

Un viatge, una recerca, un objectiu, una transformació. Cinema a la fi ens proposa un viatge des de la primera escena de la pel·lícula; un viatge a través del cinema, de l’espai, un viatge sense moviment físic, un viatge com el mateix cinema proposa. Un mapa traça un recorregut, alterable, amb peripècies, però sempre amb un punt d’arribada: les imatges. Imatges del passat, imatges del present, possibles imatges del futur, i el blanc… el blanc de la inmensa pantalla. I el negre…el negre d’una sala fosca, el negre de sales que romandran fosques i de les que tornaran a veure el blanc. I el blanc com a punt d’arribada…o de partida. Cap al passat, o cap al futur. Present, passat i futur del cinema com a contenidor d’imatges.
